Man, I don't know what it is this year but the thought of spring training and baseball starting up just gives me good feelings.
It is the sign that spring/summer is coming and nostalgic memories of sitting in Candlestick park watching the Giants with my dad sitting out in the right field bleachers (which was the family section) eating a hot dog, chewing sunflower seeds, watching the sunlight move up the stands until it finally reached us to warm us up.
I remember watching Will Clark play first base and just waiting for him to hit one out to me since he was left handed. I remember Robby Thompson at 2nd base and Jose Uribe(pronounced "U ree bay" at short and the whole stadium would yell his name first 1 section would yell "UUUUUUUUU!!!" then the next section would yell "RIBE!!!". Then you had Matt Williams at 3rd. (before he started "juicing")
I remember Kevin Mitchel out in left field making a bare handed grab one time.
I was in the stands when Dave Dravecky pitched in his first come back game. It was intense!
Now, I have the opportunity to be making those memories with my oldest, Cam. I've taken him to games every year but he is almost 4 1/2 now and I look forward to spending lots of time at the ballpark with him and teaching him all about baseball and it's tradition.
I'm glad he is too young to know what has been going on in baseball for the past decade ish. Hopefully this "era" will be over before he really gets into it. I would hate for one of his role models (as far as sports) let him down becaue they didn't have any integrity or respect. I'm not gonna get too high on my soapbox.
Anyway...LOVE this time of year!
