This 40 Weeks of Change is about changing perspective for us (Christian high schoolers and leaders). It is about changing our relationship with God so that we truly are learning how to live like Him so that we can follow Him better by doing things that He did and living like He has called us to. It is also about bringing change to His church, our city, state, country & world as God uses us in His plan to restore all His creation.
This past Saturday, as part of our 40 Weeks of Change we are doing with our High School students two other youth pastors and myself took our groups out to a local foodbank to serve/volunteer.
It was so cool to see the students jump in and take ownership of little things like stacking boxes the right height so the foodbacnk could fit them on the shelves in their warehouse. Nobody was standing around, nobody had a bad attitude we all were just gettin the job done.
After we had been there for a couple hours the work was coming slower from the foodbank and I was saying "it's always a good sign when the place you are going to serve starts running out of stuff for you to do".
The guy over there, Pete, was SO excited about the work we did! He told me that he was blown away by how much we did. He said we did 2 times what they had planned on us doing which = 4,000lbs of food which inturn = feeding 4000 families a meal they may or may not have gotten.
What a great opportunity to serve the way God has called us to. You never know how an experience like that will change a person. Either the one receiving OR the one giving. A couple of the students and a leader in our group said things like "Man, I've never done this before...this is REALLY cool. We should do this again!"
That's just it...we should do it again. We should be doing it often because it has to become part of our lifestyle as we live following Christ.
I praise God that He is gracious enough to allow us to be a part of what He is doing!!!
